Our mission is to create original films and television programs that engage viewers and provoke inquiry and thought. We produce documentaries that captivate, challenge, and entertain viewers on significant social and historical ideas and issues.

Works by the producers at Axial Productions have received numerous awards and have been nominated for Academy and National Emmy Awards. They have aired on PBS, HBO, and A&E, and on television and at festivals around the world.

Axial Productions was founded in 2000 by Daniel Alpert, an award-winning producer, director and editor.

Axial Productions recently completed A History of God, a two-hour documentary special for Arts and Entertainment (A&E) Television. Based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, A History of God explores humanity's conception of God, its impact on history and its relevance to contemporary culture. Prior to this project, Alpert co-produced and edited Legacy, a documentary that was broadcast on HBO and nominated for a 2000 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The documentary is a powerful portrait of three generations of women in the Collins family who struggle to break free from poverty, welfare, addiction and the violence afflicting their community. Legacy was funded by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The J.R. Houlsby Foundation and The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.

Before working on Legacy, Alpert produced a three-part national PBS series, No Time To Be A Child. Each program in this series tells the stories of resilient young people overcoming urban violence, poverty and domestic violence through their own eyes and in their own words. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Ford Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting funded this $1.4 million series. The series garnered a National News and Documentary Emmy nomination, two Casey Medals for Meritorious Journalism, a Golden Apple, a New York Festivals World Medal and two CINE Gold Eagles, to name just a few.
